OpenAI launches Astra after cyber alert; Anthropic prepares IPO
The September thesis
September shows artificial intelligence moving beyond merely being a competition between models and becoming a race for infrastructure. Anthropic and OpenAI prepared the market for going public, while SoftBank took its appetite for energy to the stock market. Nvidia bought the gateway to open AI with Hugging Face and expanded its influence over chips; Google/Alphabet responded with investment, search, Waymo and an offensive against the cost of Chinese models. Scale became the product — and also the bill.
This expansion demanded trust and execution. Anthropic faced a lawsuit over songs; OpenAI accumulated a leak, a dispute with Apple and an executive departure, in addition to postponing a model after the attack on Hugging Face. Meta advanced on the product front, Amazon/AWS and Google/Alphabet pushed robotaxis forward, and SpaceX/xAI/Cursor exposed the fragility of dependence on computing.
Current board
- Anthropic — T +34 · 9 scored stories · 51 mentions. Anthropic prepares to open up, but pays the cost of scale The period combines a billion-dollar pre-IPO and US$ 15 billion in credit, with Claude Fable 5.1 becoming cheaper and more flexible. The scale thesis is taking shape — under pressure from cheap Chinese models and accusations of music theft. Anthropic launches Claude Fable 5.1; new model is cheaper and less restrictive for agentic work. IPO could pave the way for new AI listings; IPO plan dominates the U.S. calendar; US$ 15 billion pre-IPO credit in the final phase. Anthropic sued over alleged theft of tens of thousands of songs. Chinese models up to 90% cheaper pressure the U.S. industry and push Google, OpenAI and Anthropic away from the public market.
- Google/Alphabet — T +20 · 9 scored stories · 39 mentions. Google/Alphabet accelerates the product, but does not control the narrative The period saw expansion in applied AI, search, productivity and robotaxis, with Gemini and Waymo taking center stage. Product traction contrasts with Chinese models up to 90% cheaper and competitive pressure on the ecosystem. Google adds travel bookings to AI Mode; Waymo expands paid robotaxis; launches Gemini 3.8 Flash and voice for Gmail, Docs and Keep. Startup helping Google take on Nvidia reaches a valuation of US$ 18 billion. Chinese AI models up to 90% cheaper pressure Google and drive companies away from the public market; US$ 18 billion startup.
- Nvidia — T +20 · 9 scored stories · 56 mentions. Nvidia expands its front, but loses centrality in the narrative The period combines acquisitions, ecosystem expansion and new products, from Hugging Face to RTX Spark laptops. Nvidia advances in capital and product — under pressure from MediaTek and startups competing for its central position. NVIDIA launches DLSS 5, a tool that connects idle computers, and RTX Spark laptops. Nvidia acquires Hugging Face; Larry Ellison surpasses Jensen Huang and becomes the 8th richest. US$ 3.5 billion agreement between Nvidia and MediaTek; startup helping Google take on Nvidia reaches US$ 18 billion.
- OpenAI — T +12 · 18 scored stories · 101 mentions. OpenAI accelerates on the product, but loses support The period was dominated by Astra, cybersecurity, the Jalapeño chip and new models, along with capital announcements. The technical offensive sustains traction — but leaks, security warnings, executive departures and Chinese competition pressure confidence and the narrative. OpenAI's head of data centers leaves the company amid executive departures. GPT-6 Astra launch; critical cyber capabilities; cyber protections; Jalapeño chip surpasses Nvidia GB300 in benchmarks. OpenAI says its advertising business is growing and moves toward an IPO. Four risks of a security breach; Apple accuses OpenAI of destroying evidence. Chinese AI models up to 90% cheaper pressure the U.S. industry and push Google, OpenAI and Anthropic away from the public market.

Radar: under observation
- SoftBank — Em observação: T +1,5 com 2 notícias pontuadas — abaixo do corte (3) do dia. SoftBank turns its headquarters into a capital bet on AI The mentions concern the IPO of SB Energy and its exposure to AI's electricity demand. SoftBank expands the infrastructure thesis — with the caveat that the operation is substantially dependent on OpenAI.
- Meta — Em observação: T +0,5 com 2 notícias pontuadas — abaixo do corte (3) do dia. Meta advances the product, but is still playing catch-up The mentions combine model advances and regulatory clearance for new AI products. Meta turns technical capability into room to launch — with the caveat that the movement is described as closing the gap, not leading.
- Amazon/AWS — Em observação: T +0,2 com 1 notícias pontuadas — abaixo do corte (3) do dia. Amazon/AWS gains a foothold on the road to autonomy The only mention concerns a product: Zoox is expanding its robotaxi service to Las Vegas airport. Amazon/AWS turns autonomy into visible operations — still with the caveat that the expansion is limited.
- Apple — Em observação: T +0,2 com 1 notícias pontuadas — abaixo do corte (3) do dia. Apple ushers in an era of transition under technological pressure The narrative combines leadership succession with artificial intelligence challenges and memory shortages. Apple enters a new phase, but operational pressure and the technological race limit its momentum.
- Oracle — Em observação: T +0,2 com 1 notícias pontuadas — abaixo do corte (3) do dia. Oracle gains traction in capital, but without broad support The period saw financial appreciation and an increase in wealth linked to Oracle. The reading is one of strength in capital — with the caveat that there is only one mention, with no evidence of progress in product, narrative or trust.
- Perplexity — Em observação: T +0,2 com 1 notícias pontuadas — abaixo do corte (3) do dia. Perplexity rehearses hybrid computing with privacy on Mac The period showed a product bet on hybrid computing focused on privacy on Mac. It is a clear technical expansion, but still isolated: the scale of launches is insufficient to sustain traction.
- SpaceX/xAI/Cursor — Em observação: T -0,5 com 1 notícias pontuadas — abaixo do corte (3) do dia. SpaceX/xAI/Cursor exposes operational fragility The mention concerns an operational failure: an outage affected Grok and other computing partners, followed by an apology. The episode weakens the perception of a reliable product — although it was an isolated incident.
