Anthropic sees a market opportunity of more than US$30 trillion before its IPO
The August thesis
August turned the race into a capital market: Anthropic, OpenAI and Alibaba/Qwen made expansion an IPO thesis, while SpaceX/xAI/Cursor spent heavily right after going public. Nvidia tried to preserve its position through financing, acquisitions and strategic bets, but investor pressure showed that even the infrastructure provider needs to prove returns. The competition was no longer just about models: DeepSeek and Alibaba/Qwen advanced against Anthropic and OpenAI, and Perplexity brought the agent to a local machine at no token cost.
The most immediate price was trust. Anthropic, Meta and OpenAI appeared linked to intrusions or breaches; Amazon/AWS faced backlash and a lawsuit for training models with someone else’s content.
