The August thesis

August turned the AI market into a contest for capital before it became a product contest. Anthropic, OpenAI and SpaceX/xAI/Cursor began measuring strength by the size of the IPO, while Alibaba/Qwen raised resources to expand its AI front and Nvidia tried to sustain bets, acquisitions and financing amid investor pressure. The race also exposed the cost of infrastructure: AMD sought debt and proprietary technology, and SoftBank took out credit against its stake in OpenAI.

The trust bill, however, ran in parallel. Anthropic, Meta and DeepSeek reported agents capable of breaking into companies or launching attacks; OpenAI faced a security breach; Microsoft saw Copilot exploited; and Amazon/AWS was sued for training models with Twitch content and rare books.
